WWE Smackdown Recap (April 25th 2017)

We start the show with Shinsuke Nakamura getting interrupted by Dolph Ziggler. Ziggler insinuates that Nakamura is Michael Jackson. Nakamura cuts a promo in Japanese and Dolph cheap shots him. Nakamura don't play that shit though and suplexes Dolph, who decides better of it. This was not a great opening segment. The Michael Jackson thing was shit. They have to work around Shinsuke's language barrier better than this.

Kevin Owens is on commentary for AJ Styles vs Baron Corbin for the second week running. Decent match with AJ picking up the pin with a rollup from a powerbomb counter. Following the match Owens and Corbin beat down Styles. Zayn makes the save and runs Owens off. He gets the better of Corbin but Owens returns and takes out Zayn ans Styles. It did a good job of making Owens look strong going in to the PPV.

We have American Alpha vs The Colons (I could put an accent on that but it's funnier if I don't) in the first of 2 beat the clock challenge matches to crown…

WWE Raw Recap (April 24th 2017)

We kick off with another recap of Braun in all of his ambulance flipping, ring demolishing glory.

It's Braun vs Kalisto in a dumpster match later tonight.

Jericho is out for an episode of the Highlight Reel. He says that it will be the last time he will be on Raw because he will beat Owens and move to Smackdown. He also gives a shoutout to Southpaw Regional Wrestling. He calls Kevin Owens the hemorrhoid of America and gets interrupted by The Miz. Miz says the Highlight Reel will be replaced by Miz TV. He then does just that. As he is about to start though, Ambrose comes out. He sets up the Ambrose Asylum set. Ambrose apologises for ruining Jericho's jacket and gives him a new one, it's a suit jacket with Christmas lights on it. In the end Miz gets hit with Dirty Deeds and Maryse gets put on the list. That felt like it lasted forever. The shitty talk show style segments do nothing for me.

Matt Hardy vs Sheamus. Decent enough match. Matt does a mix of old skool Hardys and Broke…

WWE Smackdown Recap (April 18th 2017)

We start with Charlotte demanding a title shot as she hasn't been granted one in the 7 days she has been on the show. Naomi comes out and grants her the title shot but attacks her immediately. Shane comes out to make a match where Charlotte has to beat Naomi to become number 1 contender. The 2 of them then have a brawl. The crowd seemed more than happy to have Charlotte as the champion, and they should, she is great.

Natalya is pissed that Charlotte is being treated better than her. Shane said that if you want a title shot you just have to ask, which seems like a terrible way to determine a number one contender. Carmella turned up and I'm not really sure what happened as Ellsworth started speaking and I went into a coma.

We are already going headfirst into the really weird number 1 contendership match for the WWE Title. It's Sami Zayn vs Mojo Rawley vs Luke Harper vs Erick Rowan vs Dolph Ziggler vs Jinder Mahal. What this basically means is that AJ Styles gets punished for …

Raw Recap (April 17th 2017)

We kick things off with a recap of last weeks murder by Braun Strowman.

Braun comes out and gets a hero's welcome. Anyone can get over by just destroying Reigns. He is proud of himself for what he did last week. Angle comes out to tell Braun he has caused enough problems and that he has the night off. Braun is not happy about that and demands more competition. Angle also says he booked Reigns vs Strowman at Payback. Decent enough start. It did what it was meant to do.

Seth Rollins is on commentary for Samoa Joe vs Chris Jericho. Jericho has the light up scarf from WrestleMania. I'm not really sure why this match was booked, neither man should be losing before their respective PPV matches. The match was decent, with Joe winning via Coquina Clutch. After the match Joe cut a really good heel promo talking about Seth's joints popping. Seth cut a promo too.

The Drifter was middling backstage. Corey Graves was not a happy bunny.

Braun does the murder on Golden Truth which makes me …

Overall Grade - B Another strong show from WrestleMania weekend. Only one weak thing on it and it isn't really a match. Scurll vs Ricochet and Sabre vs Penta are both worth checking out.

WWE Smackdown Recap (April 11th 2017)

It's part 2 of the superstar shakeup. JBL is on commentary as normal. Byron Saxton has been traded with David Otunga so, happy days, no Otunga at all this week.

We start with Kevin Owens, who somewhat predictably has been traded to Smackdown. He runs down America, bigs up Canada and says he is the new face of America. He says he can beat the entire locker room which brings out Baron Corbin. He challenges Owens to a title match. Owens isn't really up for it. Sami Zayn comes out to announce that he is on Smackdown too. Owens is really not happy about that. Styles comes out to tell them all that it's about him, not them. This brings out Daniel Bryan to set up a number 1 contenders match for the US Title for later in the show, Sami Zayn vs Baron Corbin vs AJ Styles. He also says that if Owens loses the US Title to Jericho at Payback it will be Jericho that joins Smackdown. This was a really good way to kick off the show. It gives the promise of new feuds while hinting at reigni…

WWE Raw Recap (April 10th 2017)

We kick off with the Miz & Maryse who are now on Raw. They do their Cena & Nikki thing before Dean Ambrose interrupts. He is on Raw too. He cuts a promo as if Miz & Maryse are actually Cena & Nikki. He then hits Miz with the Dirty Deeds. It's a decent enough start to the show. I have no problem with either of these moves. The Miz has been on fire for a year and maybe a switch will stoke that fire further. Ambrose has sort of been milling about on Smackdown so he might as well move. It could well telegraph Owens switching as he is the US champ.

Next up we get a backstage skit with Angle doing some business on the phone before being interrupted by Sami Zayn. Apparently Smackdown are very interested in Zayn, as well they should be. Miz turns up and tells Zayn to do one. Angle sets up a match for later tonight.

New Day are out with a blow up doll of Kofi and they challenge the Revival to a rematch. They have a good TV match with the Revival coming out on top with a nasty…

NJPW Sakura Genesis 2017 Review

Jushin Liger, Manabu Nakanishi & David Finlay vs. Hirai Kiwato, Katsuya Kitamura & Tomoyuki OkaThis is the veterans vs. young lions opener so the outcome isn't really in doubt but the the young boys looked good and it was nice to see Finlay pick up the pinfall. This was short and to the point. **1/2

Bullet Club (Yujiro Takahashi, Chase Owens & Guerrillas of Destiny) vs. Yuji Nagata, Togi Makabe, Tiger Mask & Tiger Mask WThe Bullet Club B Team is here. If Takahashi didn't have the sensational valet I would completely forget he existed. This was another typical multi-man tag match but that isn't necessarily a bad thing. It was brisk, it had some nice moments and it never outstayed its welcome. Chase Owens looked good here. ***

Suzuki-gun (Minoru Suzuki, Taka Michinoku & El Desperado) vs. CHAOS (YOSHI-HASHI & Roppongi Vice)We are flying out the gate with the multi-man tags. This one differentiates itself by being more of a brawl. Suzuki-gun attacks befor…

Evolve 81 Review

Non-Title Match - Zack Sabre Jr vs. Michael ElginNot the hot start to the show that I had hoped for. The crowd is absolutely dead for this. Sabre reopens a cut he suffered earlier in the day. There were some nice spots here and there, such as a super powerbomb and a DVD on the apron but it never really reached the standards it should have. **1/2
Following the match Lio Rush comes out to challenge Sabre to a title match at a later date. This brings out Drew Galloway, who tells Rush he needs to concentrate on him.

Drew Galloway vs. Lio RushThe winner of this match was supposed to get a future title shot but considering Galloway is heading back to NXT that won't be happening. This was a fun big man vs. small man match with Galloway throwing Rush around like a rag doll and Rush selling like a champ. Rush was a believable underdog here. Galloway won with a headbutt followed up by a great looking spinning Future Shock DDT. ***1/2

Keith Lee vs. Donovan DijakBefore you read this bear in mind…

15. DIY vs Authors of Pain (NXT Tag Titles: NXT Takeover: San Antonio) A great big guy/small guy dynamic here. This match gives you an idea of what AoP can be when given the right opponents. Tommasso Ciampa was tremendous here. ****
14. Matt Riddle vs DUSTIN (No DQ, Evolve 77) This reminded me of an old school arena wide brawl. Matt Riddle is great. He can adapt to any type of match and he has only been wrestling for just over 2 years. He was a UFC fighter, he has a very likeable personality and, tremendously, he comes out to Regulator by Warren G. He would be i…
