WWE Smackdown Recap (27th June 2017)

This will be another quicker recap. Sorry about that.

We start the show with Daniel Bryan hyping the women's matches for tonight. Carmella comes out to kick off about injustice. Bryan defends his decision which causes Ellsworth to talk shit about him and the crowd. Bryan bans him from the entire arena. Carmella's promo was a touch repetitive but the segment was decent and the crowd was invested.

Hype Bros vs Usos - If Hype Bros win they get a title shot. They didn't win. The match was decent enough and they appear to be holding off on a heel turn for one of the Hype Bros. It's coming though.

Following the match the New Day get themselves another title shot even though the Hype Bros had to win to get a shot they had already earned. Common sense for you.

Free agent John Cena returns next week.

We get another episode of Fashion Vice. It's funny but it's not quite up to the standard of their previous work.

Naomi vs Lana (SD Women's Title) - Lana attacks at the bell, …

WWE Raw Recap (26th June 2017)

This will be a quick recap as I had to skim over the show a bit this week.

We kick off the show with Roman Reigns. He is not happy with Braun attacking him last week. He acknowledges that Joe put him to sleep. He tells Braun he will take him to hell because this is his yard. An ambulance then backs in to the arena. Reigns thinks he has it figured out and opens the back of the ambulance but Braun is not there and he attacks from the side. He throws Reigns in to the side of the ambulance, then throws him in the back. To misquote the Dark Knight 'Braun is the hero we deserve and the hero we need right now'. Good opening segment. Delusional Reigns is great and Braun is greater.

The Hardy Boys & Finn Balor vs Cesaro, Sheamus & Elias Sampson - Pretty good match. It built matches for the PPV and the crowd was in to it. Balor pinned Cesaro following the Coup de Grace.

Goldust vs R-Truth - Goldust comes out with his own cameraman. The match never started. Goldust destroys Truth, w…

WWE Smackdown Recap (20th June 2017)

We start the show with all of the women, except Carmella, discussing Carmella's shitty MITB win. Daniel Bryan turns up and wants to hear what Carmella and Ellsworth have to say for themselves.

Carmella cuts a promo about how she didn't break any rules at MITB and everyone needs to shut the fuck up. She claims that she is more intelligent than the other women because she had a plan. It was a decent enough promo.

Charlotte meets with Bryan to convince him to change his mind. Bryan tells her that it was no DQ but Charlotte ain't happy about it.

Big E vs Jimmy Uso - Before the match the New Day cut a promo saying that the Usos ran away from their match at MITB. This was a decent match with Big E picking up the win, proving that New Day will win when the Usos can't run away.

Bryan is talking with Shane O Mac on the phone. Natalya and Tamina show up and want to know what he is going to do about the MITB match. Bryan says he will have an answer later.

Naomi is being interviewed a…

WWE Raw Recap (19th June 2017)

We start the show with Roman Reigns big announcement. Reigns says he can't be beat one on one, even though he has been beaten one on one numerous times (Rollins, Balor, Braun). He once again makes the point that he retired Undertaker. If he isn't a heel, he sure as hell acts like it. Maybe he's just a prick. He says that he will be the number one contender at Summerslam because it's his yard and he makes the rules. This brings out Joe who says that Reigns hasn't beaten him and that he is the true number 1 contender. Roman says that he agrees with what Heyman said last week, and that he will always be 'just Joe' to him. BIG FUCKING HEADBUTT FROM JOE. Joe gets the better of Reigns, beating him down at ringside. Back in the ring Reigns fights off the Coquina Clutch and hits the Superman Punch. This was a fucking good segment. Reigns is a dick and Joe is a straight up murderer. Raw will probably go downhill after the first segment again.

We'll get Reigns vs …

WWE Money In The Bank 2017 Review

Kickoff: Hype Bros vs The ColonsThis was exactly what you would expect, a serviceable but completely forgettable kickoff match. I would say more but there isn't really anything else to say. Good to see Ryder back though. **
Charlotte Flair vs Becky Lynch vs Carmella vs Natalya vs Tamina - Money In The Bank Ladder MatchI don't really know where to start with this one so I'll start with the match itself. I thought that it was building well with some really nice work from everyone except for Tamina, who was terrible. There weren't many big spots in it but that didn't really matter as they had the crowd on their side and the drama was there. Charlotte did a version of the Twisted Bliss to the floor, which was nice. Then the finish came and it was all kinds of dreadful. With everyone down James Ellsworth retrieved the briefcase and gave it to Carmella, and with that the first ever women's MITB match ended with a man retrieving the briefcase. I know that people will…

WWE Smackdown Recap (13th June 2017)

We start the show with New Day being played to the ring by a live band. Nice touch. They talk, the Usos talk, so do Fashion Police and the Colons. Nothing of worth was said.

New Day & Fashion Police vs Usos & Colons - Decent match to open the show. The New Day got the win to give them some momentum heading into the PPV.

We get another reminder that John Cena, the free agent, will return on July 4th.

Styles and Nakamura have a chat backstage. PCP Crazy Sami turns up and manically talks strategy. Nakamura likes his style.

Mojo is interviewed about losing to Jinder last week. He is gutted. Zack Ryder turns up to say they have unfinished business as a team.

Naomi vs Tamina - This was a non-title match, which Naomi won for once. Tamina is not a good singles wrestler and this was a poor match.

Jinder is out to run down Orton. He says he will prove Orton is a coward and destroy his legacy. Orton sneaks in and hits a sweet looking RKO. It was a decent segment.

Owens, Corbin & Ziggler a…

NJPW Dominion 6.11 Review

Welcome to the review of Dominion, which is kinda like New Japan's Summerslam. It has a bunch of rematches from WrestleKingdom on it, including the rematch of the century in the main event.

David Finlay, Tomoyuki Oka & Syoto Unimo vs Tetsuhiro Yagi, Hirai Kawato & Katsuya KitamuraDecent Young Lions match. Pretty much what you would expect. **1/2
Jushin Liger, Manabu Nakanishi, Hiroyoshi Tenzan & Satoshi Kojima vs Tiger Mask W, Tiger Mask IV, Togi Makabe & Yuji NagataLiger continues his retirement tour. I love the New Japan dads. Grizzled veterans all day, every day. Good match. I still wish that Ibushi was wrestling as himself. ***
Los Ingobernables de Japon vs Bullet Club vs Suzuki-Gun vs CHAOS vs Taguchi Japan (IWGP Never Openweight 6-Man Tag Titles, Gauntlet Match)This is New Japan's way of getting everyone on the show. Except Marty Scurll and Will Ospreay who are nowhere to be found. I enjoyed this. Like all gauntlet matches it was a series of short matches…

WWE Raw Recap (12th June 2017)

We open the show with Paul Heyman and Brock Lesnar. Heyman says that this will be Joe's day of reckoning. He says that due to last week's actions Brock has a problem with Joe. He thought that Joe could stand up to Brock but he was wrong. He says that all the Samoans in wrestling want nothing to do with Joe but he did put over the Coquina Clutch. Joe has heard enough and comes out to sort some shit. He and Brock get in each other's faces and Joe attacks. Angle sends out security to break it up. They don't. The locker room clears to separate them. Joe fights them off and kicks Brock in the face. They brawl to the floor but are separated to end the segment. This was a great segment. They are building this feud really well at this point. I can't help but feel this should have ended the show.

Dean Ambrose vs Elias Sampson - Sampson treats us to a tune. This match wasn't great. It never really hit it's stride for one reason or another. Sampson picked up the win af…

Best Matches of May 2017

There are a hell of a lot of honourable mentions this month. The standard of wrestling has been very high. I also want to give the highest possible recommendation to PROGRESS Chapter 49: Super Strong Style 16. Due to studying I didn't have the time to write a full review but the 3 day tournament as a whole is absolutely fantastic and I urge everyone to check it out. The PWG matches took place in March (I think) but weren't released until May.

WWE Smackdown Recap (6th June 2017)

We start the show with Shane McMahon in the ring with the competitors in the women's MITB ladder match. Shane reveals the women's MITB briefcase, it looks like a briefcase, and then the competitors shout at each other. A lot. Naomi comes out to say that she wishes she could be in the MITB match. Lana comes out to say that while Naomi can't be in the match, she can. Naomi tells her that she ain't shit, which honestly makes her come across as a bit of a heel. Why would Naomi care if Lana was in the MITB match? Shane tells Lana she can't be in the match. This wasn't a particularly good opening segment.

Naomi, Becky Lynch & Charlotte Flair vs Tamina, Carmella & Natalya - This was a decent enough match that ended when Lana came down to trip up Naomi, allowing Tamina to hit her with the superkick for the win. Naomi is eating quite a few losses since she won the title.

Shane meets with Mojo Rawley, who says he has a win over Jinder Mahal and just wants a chance…

WWE Raw Recap (5th June 2017)

We start with Bray Wyatt saying that he will take revenge on all of the other 4 competitors from last night's fatal 5-way. Reigns interrupts to tell him who's yard it is and we have our first match of the night.

Bray Wyatt vs Roman Reigns - This was a good, but not great, match that was given a really long time for TV opener. Reigns won (shocker) with the superman punch/spear combination. Once again Bray says he will do something and then he just doesn't. He is a bit of a fibber is Bray. Decent enough way to start the show with only a short promo before a match.

Enzo & Cass are doing an interview about the attacks on Enzo. Cass says he finds it insulting that people are accusing him of the attacks and that he has Enzo's back. Including in tonight's match against Anderson & Gallows.

Alexa Bliss is talking with Kurt Angle backstage. Alexa says she is done with Bayley and wants to do a This Is Your Life segment on herself. Angle tells her that there is no way th…

WWE Extreme Rules 2017 Review

Kickoff: Apollo Crews vs KalistoThis match got announced at the very last minute. It actually has some potential to be a fun match though. It starts off well with some nice athletic moves from Kalisto but he gets caught trying one springboard too many. Then, annoyingly, there is an advert break. Please stop doing this, it is incredibly fucking frustrating. Back in the ring we get some more fun wrestling before a miscommunication between Apollo and Titus O'Neal allows Kalisto to pick up the win with a Salida Del Sol. This was possibly the best non-WrestleMania kickoff match in a while, I'm not 100% sure as I forget kickoff matches easily. ***
Intercontinental Title, If Dean Gets Disqualified He Loses The Title - Dean Ambrose vs The MizKicking off the main card with the literal antithesis of the PPV name seems like a plan. Miz starts off by trying to annoy Ambrose enough to make him lose his cool and get DQ'd. After they get that out of their system they set about having a re…
