NJPW G1 Climax 27 Night 5 Review

Back to the A Block we go with the fifth night of the G1 Climax. We are at the Machida Gymnasium in Tokyo for tonight's festivities.

Block A Match - Zack Sabre Jr vs YOSHI-HASHI

This was as simple as wrestling gets. Sabre Jr picked a body part and worked it over until he won. I'm on board with that. Wrestling doesn't always have to be complex. ***

Block A Match - Hiroshi Tanahashi vs Yuji Nagata

I love everything that Nagata is doing in this tournament. Tanahashi made the same mistake as Nagata's previous two opponents, slapping him while he was in control. That is Nagata's version of the Hulk up. The crowd is fully behind Nagata, even booing Tanahashi. In the end Nagata can't quite get the job done once again but all of his matches have been great so far. ****

Block A Match - Bad Luck Fale vs Tetsuya Naito

Real heel heat for Fale, the Daryl murdering bastard. This was slow and lumbering, especially by Naito's standards. Fale needs an opponent that knows how to work to his strengths and that wasn't the case here. Their styles didn't mesh well. **

Block A Match - Kota Ibushi vs Tomohiro Ishii

I am surprised this isn't main eventing the show. Ibushi continues his inferno hot G1 run here, this was fantastic. If Ibushi stayed in one place for long enough he would be in the conversation for best in the world with Okada, Omega and Styles. This match built beautifully throughout with Ibushi taking everything that Ishii could throw at him and coming through the other side battered but unbroken. This is a must see match. ****3/4

Block A Match - Togi Makabe vs Hirooki Goto

Well this match has a tough act to follow and I think that they did a decent job considering. It was the type of hard hitting match that you would expect from these two but I do think it would have been better with a touch less time in a lower card spot. ***

Overall Grade - B-

An up and down show for sure but when it was good it was very good indeed.
