WWE Smackdown Recap (10th October 2017)

The Usos are out to tell something to the New Day. They say that they went to war on Sunday and they are the only teams on Smackdown that ain't shit. Every time they face off they steal the show but the fans don't see what happens after. They don't see them drive to hotels injured, or the worried phone calls from family members. The Hype Bros turn up to ruin the moment. They are annoyed that the same teams keep getting opportunities, completely overlooking the fact that they lose every match. Gable & Benjamin then turn up, and they actually have a claim to the title shot. Fashion Police and the Ascension complete the party. The Usos say that they need to realise where they are, this is the Uso Penitentiary. Gable & Benjamin, on lock. Ascension, on lock. Hype Bros, on lock. New Day say that the Breezango are cool, the Usos agree, they like Fashion Files too. Daniel Bryan turns up and says that this isn't the day for this. He tells New Day and Usos to get out of the ring and books a 4-way between the other teams. This was a good opening segment and it was nice to see the mutual respect between New Day and the Usos.

Breezango vs The Ascension vs Gable & Benjamin vs Hype Bros (Number 1 Contenders Match) - This was a fun match. Gable & Benjamin picked up the win and that was the right call. They should provide the best match for the Usos. Breezango would have been a good choice too but they are caught up in Fashion Files at the moment.

Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn have their own locker room and don't feel like talking.

Natalya is talking to her title, wearing little cat ears. Lana arrives and says that the title will look better on Tamina. Carmella arrives with her briefcase and says that her dreams are more realistic than Tamina's. Natalya says they all deserve to be champion more than Charlotte. Charlotte arrives and Natalya asks if she is sad because she broke her dad's pathetic heart again. Charlotte attacks her, as she should, and they get separated.

Renee Young interviews Baron Corbin who makes fun of Styles, Dillinger and internet fans. He says he will beat Styles tonight.

Becky Lynch vs Carmella - This was alright for a 3 minute match. Becky Lynch picked up the victory with the Disarmher.

Kevin Owens makes his way to the ring to explain what happened on Sunday. Owens is taped up. He says that Shane is gone for good. He said that on Sunday he was blinded by the light, standing at the pearly gates, but was annoyed because he hates lines. He was then gifted a guardian angel in Sami Zayn. Sami comes out and Owens says that he had no idea that Zayn was going to interfere but thanks him for doing it. Sami says that he has spent his entire career playing up the fans and being nice, and it has got him nothing more than mediocrity. It was the apron powerbomb from Owens that finally opened his eyes. He warned Shane what Owens was capable of and Shane blew him off because he only cares about himself. He came to Smackdown because Shane put on a big show, saying that Raw had mistreated Sami and that this would be his chance to shine but that was the last time that Sami had a meeting with Shane. When Shane knocked Owens from the cell he had the match won but that wasn't good enough for him. He wanted to end Owens' career, or worse, so Sami did what he had to and save his brother, Kevin Owens. For years he thought he hated Owens but what he really hated was that Owens was right all along. Sami thanks Owens and they hug. This was a fantastic segment. Sami had his big opportunity to make a meaningful promo and he nailed it. The crowd didn't give him the what chants or any of that nonsense, because he seemed so genuine in his delivery. Hopefully this can be Zayn's step up into the main event scene.

Shinsuke Nakamura & Randy Orton vs Rusev & Aiden English - Solid, short match. The closing stretch was well done. The faces won but that was always going to happen.

Styles says that Corbin makes mistakes and that is why he will take his title back tonight.

We get a promo for Harper & Rowan. They have hammer and are now called the Bludgeon Brothers. The hammers are daft and so is the name but it's nice to see Harper back as he is great. The tag division is getting interesting.

Bobby Roode is out to say that he is annoyed that Ziggler ruined his debut PPV match by attacking him after the bell. Ziggler comes out and says that he outwrestled Roode and only lost because Roode used the tights. Roode says that he is just smarter than Ziggler. Ziggler demands a rematch and Roode agrees. Roode wants that match now but Ziggler wants to pick when the match is.

Turns out it's next week.

Baron Corbin vs AJ Styles - This was a good main event. Not spectacular but fun enough. Corbin retained the title with the End Of Days. Corbin then gloated about his victory.

Overall Thoughts

This was a good episode of Smackdown. The wrestling was fun and the promos for the tag division and Sami & Owens were great. I wonder if there is anything to the fact that the best episode of Smackdown in quite a while didn't have Jinder Mahal on it.
