This Week In WWE

  • The show starts with Kurt Angle. He is not a happy bunny about being cheap shotted last week. He wants to fight HHH but Steph says that he isn't here. Ronda Rousey comes out and says that last week made her realise what kind of people she was dealing with. If she was watching the show for any period of the last 18 years she would already know. Steph says that Rousey can face whoever she wants at Mania as long as it isn't a champion. Rousey wants Steph. HHH turns up, he was here really, and tells Angle to sort this shit out. Angle books HHH & Steph vs himself and Rousey. Now it's official. A brawl breaks out and Angle and Rousey stand tall. It was a fine opening segment and the crowd was really hot for it.
  • Asuka beat Nia Jax to take her record to 250-0, or something like that. The finish came when Asuka maintained a hold even after Jax had slammed her, forcing Jax to tap. It was decent enough.
  • The Revival have a chance to go to WrestleMania if they beat The Bar. They don't. The match was solid for what it was.
  • John Cena is up next, even though he is in Smackdown's world title picture. Does what the fuck he wants does old John. Cena says that he will be champion for a 17th time. He says the truth is brutal, though he could have been talking about Brutal Truth. Cena says that when he wins he wants Styles to use his rematch clause and make it a triple threat at Mania. Don't do it. Goldust interrupts him for some unknown reason. He wants to stop Cena going to Mania. Cena looks bewildered, and slightly disturbed. Goldie then lays him out. It was weird.
  • Cena and Goldust had a competitive match. Shit, but competitive. I don't know what is going on. Cena obviously won though.
  • Elias wants his match with Braun to be called off. He doesn't get what he wants.
  • Hillbilly Jim is going to the Hall Of Fame. Fair enough.
  • Bayley tries to explain why she decided not to tag Sasha last week but is interrupted by Absolution. It's pretty obvious anyway.
  • Bayley beats Mandy Rose. The match wasn't particularly great, or particularly bad. Sasha saved Bayley from a beatdown but Bayley didn't give a shit.
  • Alexa Bliss gives Nia the worst pep talk in history. Or maybe it was intentionally scathing. Nia starts crying. What the fuck is with this show? Impressive crying on demand by Nia though.
  • Braun and Corey drop Megadeth references like they are getting paid for every one they include.
  • Elias is tickling the ivory. Talented bastard is Elias. Plays some guitar too, as is customary. Elias tries to run away from his match with Braun but Braun lifts his car wheels off the floor.
  • The Symphony of Destruction match is on. Braun murders Elias with musical instruments and it is fun.
  • Bray Wyatt squashes Rhyno and then gets challenged to a match at the Hardy Compound. Thank fuck for that. The only place this ever works is at the compound. Skarsgard is back.
  • Miz is here to present the 3rd Annual Mizzies. Rollins and Balor share the award for 'Patting Themselves On The Back' and Angle wins 'Worst Decision By A General Manager'. Rollins and Balor come out and Balor has a wank looking blue leather jacket on. It's goes nicely with the return of Rollins' terrible create-a-wrestler fire tights.
  • It's Balor & Rollins vs Miztourage. The match was pretty good and we actually found out that it will be Miz vs Balor vs Rollins at Mania. A high ceiling on that match.
  • Paul Heyman comes out and he is fired up. He cuts an exceptional promo, putting over the Universal Title in a massive way. Telling Reigns everything he needs to do to be the champ. Reigns turns up and repeats what he said last week. It was a good segment, mainly because Heyman is in a class of his own.
  • I wrote more than usual about Raw this week because it was so fucking bizarre. There was a lot going on. Was it good? Kinda. Some of it made very little sense though.

  • The show kicks off with Charlotte talking about stuff before being interrupted by the Riott Squad. Riott is here to break the myth of Charlotte. They are about to give her the beatdown but are inexplicably interrupted by Bobby Roode. Pretty nonsensical start to the show.
  • Roode was on commentary for a match between Orton and Jinder. It was rank average, as is customary. Jinder picked up the win. Orton did murder the remaining Singh brother though.
  • Owens and Zayn are having a chat backstage and Sami once again says that he will lay down for Owens on Sunday. They hug it out.
  • Corbin cuts a promo about getting revenge on John Cena. I haven't really mentioned this because for some reason I couldn't be bothered but the words appearing on the screen during promos is getting on my tits. Who actually likes that? That will be my only rant about it. Probably.
  • Nakamura hopes AJ wins. So do I pal. Rusev wants to avenge the injured vocal cords of Aiden English and will face Shinsuke at Fastlane. This is a really poorly thought out idea. You need Nakamura to be getting over in a match leading up to Mania but Rusev is way too over for that. It's a lose-lose.
  • Becky Lynch beat Carmella in an OK match that led into setting up a random tag match for the PPV. It is hard to care about that match.
  • AJ Styles cuts a promo about how hard he has worked to make it to where he is and how much he wants the match with Nakamura at Mania. Ziggler turns up and says that he has never had a singles match at Mania and he is going to get it this year. Styles wants to fight.
  • Styles and Ziggler wrestle for a decent amount of timebefore thje match ends in a no contest after Owens and Zayn interfere.
  • And then because Smackdown makes no sense whatsoever we end up with a match that featured 5 of the 6 men from this Sunday's main event. Dumb. The match was fine for what it was worth, with Sami pinning Owens for the swerve.
  • Smackdown continues to be baffling.

  • Drew Gulak and Mark Andrews put on a very good match, with Gulak going over to continue on to the semi finals. Gulak has been one of the most consistently great performers on 205 Live since its inception so it's nice to see him in the title picture.
  • Hideo Itami & Akira Tozawa are now a team and they beat two randomers. WWE loves a team of the same race so this was probably only a matter of time. They do make a good team and will be a good addition to the proposed cruiserweight tag division.
  • Strong and Alexander both talked about how they are going to win the tournament.
  • The main event sees Mustafa Ali beat Buddy Murphy in another very good match. Ali looked great and this tournament has been a career rejuvenation for Murphy. Good stuff.
  • 205 Live was great fun to watch, once again.

  • We start with a Dusty Classic first round match between AoP and TM-61. Much like they did in the final of the previous tournament, AoP went over. It was a good match.
  • Regal puts over the Dusty Classic and Pete Dunne turns up. He says that the UK Title will be staying in the UK forever. Strong turns up and says that Dunne was the better man. Undisputed Era turns up to say that Strong is shit. Dunne reminds them that Cole has won fuck all either.
  • SAnitY thinks they will win the Dusty Classic.
  • Bianca Belair murdered somebody.
  • Lacey Evans says she will prove she is dominant by beating Dakota Kai next week. Baszler also says that Moon isn't a fighting champion.
  • Heavy Machinery also think they will win the Classic.
  • Tomasso Ciampa arrives to a cacophony of boos. He doesn't even need to say anything. He rips up a Gargano sign on his way out. This is how you build a heel. He is the most despised heel in the entire company, it's brilliant.
  • Aleister Black beat Killian Dain i the main event. It was a solid match but it never got near to the standard that I know these two can have. Black won with the Black Mass. Black will challenge Almas at TakeOver.
  • NXT was a good show this week, though it didn't have anything blow away on it.

Show of the Week - 205 Live

I do worry that 205 Live will lose its way somewhat after the tournament is over but I am going to enjoy it until then.
