Top 5 Worst WrestleMania Matches

Honourable Mentions

Hulk Hogan vs Yokozuna (WrestleMania IX) - This was cheapness of the lowest order.

Mr T vs Roddy Piper - Boxing Match (WrestleMania II) - You don't expect a boxing match on a wrestling show to be good and it most definitely wasn't.

5. Big Show vs Akebono (Sumo Match) - WrestleMania 21

You know what's worse than a boxing match on a wrestling show? A sumo match. I have no memory of how this match came about but I can guarantee that it wasn't worth it. It took time to set up and it stands outs in it's awfulness even more as it follows the Angle vs Michaels classic. The one thing that it has going for it is that it is short. Big Show is the anti-HBK when it comes to WrestleMania.

4. Undertaker vs Giant Gonzalez - WrestleMania IX

On a show filled with crap, this manages to be the crappiest of all. Undertaker didn't have a good match at WrestleMania until he fought Triple H at X-Seven but none of them were as slow, plodding and downright boring as this. It is also the finish that nobody liked to talk about during 'The Streak' as Taker won by DQ. That will happen when you knock someone out with chloroform.

3. Jake Roberts vs Rick Martel (Blindfold Match) - WrestleMania VII

The entire idea behind a blindfold match is full on stupidity. Both competitors have to pretend that they can't see each other and so they always overact their 'blindness', grasping at nothing and walking around like a zombie with cataracts. As entertainment value goes this is right up there with repeatedly stubbing your toe.

2. Bret Hart vs Vince McMahon (Special Referee: Bruce Hart) - WrestleMania XXVI

13 years after the Montreal Screwjob Bret Hart finally got his hands on Vince McMahon, and it was dire. This much was probably obvious when you realise that due to his insurance claim, after Goldberg ended his career, Hart wasn't allowed to take any bumps. What that meant was the entire match, which was about 10 minutes long but felt like a fortnight, was just Hart beating Vince. It got to the level where it was reasonably uncomfortable. This was junk.

1. Michael Cole vs Jerry Lawler (Special Referee: Steve Austin) - WrestleMania XXVII

WrestleMania XXVII looked at what had happened the previous year and said 'I can do worse than that'. This may well be my least favourite match of all time (it probably isn't but I can't think of anything worse off the top of my head). A general rule of thumb for Mania is if Austin is reffing the match will be garbage. From start to finish the feud was horrible and what was worse was that it got given almost 15 minutes. That was more than the Edge vs Del Rio World Title match and almost as much as the main event between the Miz and Cena. Nothing about any of this was good, it was a terrible idea from the start.
