WWE Backlash Review

Here we have a show that I am in no way excited for, mostly because I know they will do the least interesting thing possible. It is Backlash tradition.

Kickoff: Bayley vs Ruby Riott

This was fine. It didn't have anything to set it apart though, and Bayley seemed a bit off. **

Intercontinental Title - Seth Rollins vs The Miz

This was a great way to kick off the main show. These two have superb chemistry, and that was once again on show here. They work a great back and forth encounter that came across as a match that both men could win. Excellent stuff. ****1/4

Raw Women's Title - Nia Jax vs Alexa Bliss

While both women put the effort in, this match didn't have anything memorable to it. I have already forgotten everything in it. **

United States Title - Jeff Hardy vs Randy Orton

Technically, there was very little wrong with this match but it is so hard to give a shit about anything Orton does, as he does it all so boringly. **

There is an Elias performance that descends into a shitshow of stupidity.

Daniel Bryan vs Big Cass

Despite the efforts of Bryan, this was nothing more than an average match. Cass continues to look green as grass and, annoyingly, this isn't the end of this feud. The crowd chanting 'We want Enzo' didn't paint them in the best light. **1/2

Smackdown Women's Title - Carmella vs Charlotte Flair

This match was atrocious. All it involved was Carmella screaming. The injury that led to the finish came out of nowhere too. This was one of the worst WWE matches this year. *

WWE Title, No DQ - AJ Styles vs Shinsuke Nakamura

This show is aggravating me. This match was pretty good but the finish, where both men went to dick kick city and failed to beat the count, was shite. Can't we just get a proper match between these two? Their Wrestle Kingdom match seems a lifetime ago. ***

Braun Strowman & Bobby Lashley vs Kevin Owens & Sami Zayn

This was, for the most part, pretty much like any tag match you could see on Raw or Smackdown. Owens and Zayn are trying hard to make something out of the hand they are being dealt but there is only so much they can do. It felt like this was just something for them to do. **

Roman Reigns vs Samoa Joe

This match started off really well, with Joe beating the shit out of Reigns, but it fell into an all too predictable outcome. The match was there to serve as a vehicle for Reigns, and his superhuman powers of recovery. At this stage he is on par with SuperCena from a few years ago, and it is equally irritating. *1/2

Overall Grade - D

Watch the IC Title match, enjoy it, and then turn the show off. This was a poor show that just felt unimportant throughout.
